2024 Crew Chief Application

Position Description: The Baker Resources Coalition (BRC) is hiring a Crew Chief (18+) to lead up to five high school interns working in Baker County’s Elkhorn Mountains. The Crew Chief will work with and mentor interns performing wildfire mitigation, beaver habitat restoration, and conducting data collection for forest monitoring plots with the United States Forest Service. The Crew Chief will work with BRC leadership to recruit and select high school interns. The Crew Chief will confirm the scope of work and project schedule with landowners/managers. This is an opportunity to explore different facets of natural resource management while gaining valuable leadership experience. You will work on various projects assisting land managers, gain insights into the roles natural resources serve in meeting community needs, and learn practical skills in forest, watershed, and wildlife management. For each project you will work with a landowner, manager, or specialist who will share their knowledge, skills, and most importantly, their love for the outdoors. This is a 17-week position with compensation of $25.00 an hour. Depending on institutional need and employee performance, this 17-week duration may be extended. The Crew Chief will work 5 days a week, approximately 8-hour days, with an additional hour of compensation provided if project sites exceed 30 minutes of travel from Baker City. You must provide your own transportation to and from project sites! If selected for this position you will attend an orientation on Monday, May 6. Orientation will include a briefing of your work schedule, leadership expectations, current project organization, current intern applications and recruitment, project host’s expectations, etc. You will be expected to arrive on time at each project, be ready to work hard, learn, and have fun.
